Client: Family Matters Durham, Durham County
Agency: Hey Awesome Girl
Roles: Designer
Objective:
Create a brand for the new division of Durham County funded by the Improving Community Outcomes for Maternal and Child Health (ICO4MCH) grant.
Process:
Family Matters Durham was created by the Durham County Department of Public Health through a grant under the Maternal and Child Health Initiative, Improving Community Outcomes for Maternal and Child Health (ICO4MCH). The program has three goals: Improve birth outcomes, Reduce infant mortality, and Improve the health status of children ages 0-5.
The client provided a few parameters in creating this logo:
- represent a nuclear family without gendering
- include something to represent an infant
- include the Durham bull if possible
Minimalist styles and playful fonts combine to create a logo that depicts a growing family encompassed by a heart. The Durham bull appears within the wordmark. A colorful pastel palette sets a playful yet soothing tone.
Three custom icons were included to represent the three primary aims of Family Matters Durham under the ICO4MCH grant.
Supplementary background images were also provided to add contrast to larger layouts. These black and white organic shapes are meant to be used sparingly to elevate the design aesthetics.
